For the 2015-2016 school year, Children’s Church is held from September 13, 2015 through May 29, 2016. A calendar of dates will be handed out to parents at the beginning of the program year with the schedule for the year including any holidays on which Child Church is not held. Children ages 3 (must be potty-trained) through 1st grade may be dropped off before 9:30 a.m. Mass at Meeting Room #1 in the Parishioners’ Center so that parents or guardians may attend Mass while the children hear a simplified version of the Gospel reading and enjoy prayers, activities, snacks, and music. Children are then picked up following the conclusion of 9:30 a.m. Mass. All teachers in this program have completed Safe Environment Training as mandated by the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
The purpose of RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is to train those who desire to enter the Catholic Church in the ways of our faith and, ultimately, to bring these candidates into the sacraments of initiation and into full communion with the Catholic Church. Beginning in early September, two-hour sessions are held weekly on Sundays in the Parishioners Center beginning at 9:00 am. The sessions continue to Easter and a few weeks beyond. Lay persons are used to assist in the instruction and as sponsors for the candidates.
