This is a volunteer service organization that works to help keep the church attractive. Members of the Altar Guild tend to the plants and flowers on a regular basis, clean vestments and altar cloths, and decorate the Church for Christmas, Easter, and special events.
The Adopt an Angel Ministry collects Christmas gifts for the less fortunate members of the St. Philip Neri Parish family. This ministry also sends Christmas gift packages to other community organizations that service the poor. Catholic Charities, CASA of Jefferson, and Covenant House are a few of the recipients.
In 2009, the generosity of St. Philip Neri parishioners sent over 600 gifts of clothing, toys, food, blankets, gift cards, and other needed items bringing smiles to the faces of children, food to the suffering, and hope to the hearts of the needy.
Working with Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in New Orleans, this volunteer ministry cooks approximately 100 meals once a month on Friday at the St. Philip Neri Parishioner’s Center kitchen. The meals are transported to the St. Jude Center on North Rampart Street on the second Saturday of each month where it is served to our homeless and needy guests. Our main source of funding is donations from the members of the St. Philip Neri Men’s Club. In addition, some food is also donated by local merchants. Our parish volunteers are always impressed by the amount of verbal appreciation that is expressed by those we serve.
Each Tuesday, this group volunteers at Metairie Healthcare Center (on Riverside Drive behind Church) in order to provide the residents with the opportunity to continue the practice of their Catholic Faith. They visit with the residents, set up the altar for Mass/Communion service, assist at the Mass and distribute the Eucharist to those in attendance and to those who are confined to their rooms.
